USA Work Visa Types

In general, the U.S. government recognizes 5 types of work visas:

1-Visa for Athletes, Scientists, and Artists

Top athletes, scientists, artists, and others with special talents and national or international reputations (if complying with relevant provisions) can apply for a U.S. immigrant visa without needing a job offer letter from an American employer.

2-Visa for University Graduates

People with a Bachelor’s degree or higher who have at least 5 years of experience in a field related to their previous studies can apply for a U.S. immigrant visa provided they have a job offer that suits their expertise. Whether the job offered matches the applicant person’s condition has to be looked into and approved by the U.S. Department of Labor. It is best to consult an immigration expert to go through this visa process successfully.

Depending on the time the employer takes to make an application and the U.S Department of Labor to process it, the time required for obtaining this type of immigrant visa could vary between 1 to 2 years. The number of such applications made in that specific duration of time could also impact your waiting time.

Exceptions

In this group of applicants, those who can prove that their entry is in America’s national interests don’t need to provide any job offer or seek approval from the U.S. Department of Labour.

3- Visa for Skilled Workers

Skilled workers and professionals can apply for a U.S immigrant visa provided they have a job offer from an American company that matches their skills. However, since there are many applications worldwide, the time required for obtaining this type of immigrant visa could last up to a few years. Please take note the U.S. Department of Labour’s approval is essential for getting this type of visa.

4- Visa for Certain Special Immigrants

This type of visa can be issued for the following :

A- People who offer religious services as ministers and non-ministers in religious vocations and occupations.

B- Certain reporters or journalists

C- Retired people from international organizations like NATO (the North Atlantic Treaty Organization).

D- People who have assisted American military and non-military groups outside the United States, such as Iraqi and Afghan translators.
